Following the completion of the 2023 season, Wexford GAA has decided against extending the contract of Senior Hurling Manager Darragh Egan.
After two years in charge and support from the panel, it was confirmed yesterday that the Tipperary man will not remain in the position for 2024.
Wexford GAA wish to announce that, following the completion of a comprehensive review of the 2023 season, it has been decided not to extend Darragh Egan’s initial two-year term as Senior Hurling Manager.

A statement from the county board executive read: “Wexford GAA wish to announce that, following the completion of a comprehensive review of the 2023 season, it has been decided not to extend Darragh Egan’s initial two-year term as Senior Hurling Manager.
“Wexford GAA wish to acknowledge and thank Darragh for the enormous efforts he and his backroom team have made since his appointment in September 2021 and wish them all well for the future.
“The process to appoint a new Senior Hurling Manager will now commence.”
Supporters were forced to wait until the final day of the provincial Championship calendar for confirmation of their Liam MacCarthy Cup and Leinster SHC status for 2024.
A crowd of 2,500 people were astonished in Chadwicks Wexford Park as Westmeath overturned a 17-point lead to solidify their first win in 2023 and arguably their finest outing in Championship history.
The result placed Egan and his group in a precarious situation for the following week's fixtures, with the prospect of relegation to the Joe McDonagh Cup a real possibility.
Thankfully, for all in the South East, a final-round victory over All-Ireland finalists Kilkenny atoned for that spectacular defeat against Westmeath, with eyes on immediate improvement in 2024.
