A GoFundMe has been set up for a Wexford child who is currently receiving treatment in hospital following a "vicious" dog attack.

The young boy, who's understood to be named Alejandro, is being treated by medics at Crumlin Children’s Hospital in Dublin following the incident on Sunday, November 27th.

Beat understands that the boy was playing with friends at a housing estate in Enniscorthy when the attack happened.

During the attack, it is reported that neighbours tried to pull the dog off the young boy.

The dog, said to be a pit bull cross, has since been put down.

The GoFundMe has been set up by a neighbour of the child. Writing on the fundraiser page Caroline said it's "only right to help so I am making this GoFundMe to donate anything to give this little boy his beautiful smile back and get him back home."

The post continued: "My heart is truly broken for his family. What trauma and agonising pain this vicious attack has had on an innocent little boy [who was] just playing with his friends."

The fundraiser has so far surpassed the halfway mark, raising €1,043 of the €2,000 goal at the time of writing.
