Messaging service WhatsApp has rejected a UK Government request to create a way to access encrypted messages earlier this year, reports Sky News, citing an anonymous security source.

Sky News reports that 80%t of investigations into terrorism and serious crime are affected by encryption.

Apple’s Tim Cook has previously said that weakening encryption would hurt the public, while terrorists would just find new ways to communicate.
