Virtual Reality Mario Cart sees light of day, but there's a catch

There’s an official version of Mario Kart in virtual reality, but it’s only heading to a Tokyo arcade for now.

Mario Kart Arcade GP VR is a newly announced entry in the Namco-developed series of Mario Kart arcade games.

As the name may suggest, the new title makes the jump to VR, allowing players to race and throw shells at each other in virtual reality.

The game will run off a HTC Vive headset, with players controlling the action in Mario Kart-styled arcade chairs with built-in steering wheels for driving and motion controller wrist bands to allow you to actually throw items at your opponents.

For now, Mario Kart VR is only heading to Bandai Namco’s new VR Zone arcade in Shinjuku, Tokyo but may see a wider global release in the future.
