Director of Public Policy, Tara Hopkins, explains how age verification technology will work:

"We are developing technology that uses artificial intelligence to try to estimate how old someone is based on things like a Happy Birthday post."
"If a lot of people are wishing people a happy 16th birthday but their stated age on Instagram is 23, our system will be able to pick up on that, and then we will ask them to verify their age."
