Ireland will be captained by Tadhg Furlong in this weekend's Autumn Nations international match against Fiji.
It will be the first time the prop from Wexford leads the team out for a test match.
The IRFU revealed the news today ahead of tomorrow's team announcement.
Tadhg Furlong says he never dreamed of captaining Ireland and says he is thrilled by the prospect.
"It's class.
"Obviously, I didn't know if I'd be playing or not.
"They said to me Monday would I skipper the team if I was fit and ready to go and I said 'Of course'!
"It's class, its not something that I ever thought would be on my radar to be honest.
"To get the opportunity is special."
With Furlong named as captain, Joey Carbery is expected to start at out half ahead of Johnny Sexton.
