We chat to Wexford's Loughlin Gannon, aka. Mr. Universe

Being crowned Mr. Universe might sound like something from a sci-fi flick, but it's most certainly the real deal.

Wexford's Loughlin Gannon recently became the NABBA Mr Universe Men's Amateurs Overall Winner, becoming the first Irish man to bring home the title.

Speaking to Shonagh for our Wednesday's Warriors section, the bodybuilder said that it feels "completely surreal" to win a title once held by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"I started out when I was 18 years-of-age, back in the Good Council School in New Ross, but a lot of people don't realise that I was diagnosed with testicular cancer only a couple of months into my training."

Loughlin had a number of operations and went through chemotherapy before being able to make a full recovery.

So, what's next?

"I really don't have the right answer yet", joked Loughin. "Strongman or powerlifting might be an option; a break to keep things fresh."

"If I could be Mr. Universe and Ireland's strongest man, I'd certainly give that a pop."
