The issue of Irish sportspeople being claimed as British has resurfaced again today.
It comes as Tipperary cyclist Sam Bennett claimed the opening stage of the Criterium International event in Corsica, then this tweet appeared following the stage:
Sky's two wins yesterday, @Sammmy_Be today. Easy to say British teams/riders are on fire. Suspect Dutch, Polish and Irish fans would object!

However, the Carrick-on-Suir native responded in a light-hearted fashion, with this tweet
Gabh mo leithsceil @cyclesportmag ach is eireannach mise. Go raibh maith agaibh go leir don tachaíocht agus do fhocail cineálta 😊

For those of us who aren't up to scratch on our Irish, that literally means 'Sorry @cyclesportsmag, but I'm Irish. Thank you all for your support and your kind words.
Fair play!
