With the Ireland vs. Denmark World Cup qualifier match just around the corner, we thought we'd take a look back at the footballers from the South East who have worn the Irish jersey...
Kilkenny
Matt O'Mahony
Played for a host of English clubs in the 1930s and 40s, he earned six Irish caps in the late 30s. From Mullinavat in Kilkenny.
Seanie Maguire, the Kilkenny native has just broken into the Irish squad after fantastic performances for Cork City and then for new Club Preston North End. Seanie is currently injured and will miss both games vs Denmark.
Tipperary
Shane Long
Those in Semple Stadium for last year's Tipp-Galway qualifier would have seen Long striding behind the New Stand in full Tipp garb with his family.
He scored 2-1 for Tipperary in the Munster Minor final of 2004, and featured in All-Ireland minor semi-finals against Galway and Kilkenny in 2003 and 2004.
Waterford
Daryl Murphy
After Cork and Dublin, the county that has possibly produced the most Irish soccer internationals. Murphy and O'Shea both started against Scotland.
John O’ Shea
Has been ever-present for Ireland for a decade and has Captained Ireland since taking over from Robbie Keane.
Wexford
Kevin Doyle
From Adamstown, he intervened in the 2011 general election urging a vote for Mick Wallace. May well have been decisive.
Follows in the footsteps of another illustrious Wexford international, Bill Lacey, who played for Liverpool and Everton and featured on the first Ireland to win the British Championship in 1914.
Don’t be alarmed, we haven’t forgotten about Carlow! Unfortunately, no one from the dolmen county has worn the green shirt on a senior international level. Sorry guys!
