Speculation mounts over next Waterford senior hurling boss

Widespread speculation is increasing about the man to take charge of the Waterford senior hurling team.

County Board Chairman Sean Michael O'Regan is joined by Pat Flynn, Fergal Hartley and Irial Mac Murchu as the four-man selection committee to make the appointment.

Liam Cahill stepped down as Waterford supremo after three seasons in charge - taking control of his native Tipperary.

As is to be expected, there are several high-profile names being highlighted as potential replacements for Cahill.

Two former Déise bosses have grown in strength for the role, by way of Davy Fitzgerald and Derek McGrath.

Kilkenny duo Eddie Brennan and Michael Fennelly are also in the conversation, although a vacancy in their homeland may be of more interest at this moment.

There was much hope for this Waterford side having won their fourth league title in April.

A devastating Championship campaign saw them tumble out of the Munster championship in May, after defeats to Limerick, Cork and Clare.

Despite the turmoil, there is a vibrant squad which possesses youth, speed, technical ability and a desire to win.
