Having been recalled by his parent club Bristol City, the 21-year-old signed with the Blue's fierce rivals - on the same day Waterford had confirmed his recall.
The move did not go down well with some members of the support and this has led to a vile response from a small contingent.
Britton was sent a number of awful messages - including a voice message which threatened that he would "have his throat slit" should he step foot in Waterford again.
Other messages saw users wish for Britton to "do his ACL" and urge him to "book a hospital appointment", as well as wanting him to suffer a "career ending injury".
Beat have contacted Waterford FC for comment on the matter.
