Johnny Sexton ruled out of French clash

Johnny Sexton will not lead Ireland into their next Six Nations game.

The Leinster and Irish out-half has been ruled out of the side's game due to a hamstring injury, sustained in training yesterday.

The 36-year-old only returned to the Leinster setup for the first time since mid-October in their Champions Cup victory against Bath in January.

He will now be replaced by Munster's Joey Carbery, who will be making his first start in the competition, which saw Ireland beat reigning champions Wales in Dublin last weekend.

Carbery himself only returned to action from a fractured elbow last weekend in that victory, with Connacht's Jack Carty now included as back-up out-half for the game in the French capital.

Sexton's injury marks the only change to the side that beat Wales 29-7 at the Aviva Stadium, while France saw off a spirited Italian team in Saint-Denis 37-10 four days ago.

There are two further alterations to the Ireland bench for the game which kicks off at 4.45pm on Saturday, with Iain Henderson and Robbie Henshaw returning from injury issues in place of Ryan Baird and James Hume.

Ireland haven't beaten the French in their last two attempts, losing 15-13 in Dublin on Valentine's Day last year, and 35-27 at the Stade de France in 2020.
