A former Waterford captain has been named the new manager of the Kerry hurlers.
Stephen Molumphy has taken the reigns at the Kingdom for the next two years, in a deal that was announced by the county board this afternoon.
The Ballyduff Upper forward donned the Déise colours between 2006 and 2014, winning the Munster Championship in 2007 and 2010, while also winning an All-Star in the former year.
He was also part of the Waterford side that lost to Kilkenny in the 2008 All-Ireland final.
The Kingdom have been beaten in the last two finals of the Joe McDonagh Cup, and will be eyeing a return to the senior level under Molumphy, who has drafted Pat Bennett and Shane Briggs as selectors.
His intercounty career on the sideline has seen him serve as a selector with Wexford in 2019, when they won the Leinster hurling title under the tutelage of the now departed Davy Fitzgerald. He also worked as a selector with the Waterford side but left in 2021 due to work commitments.
The 37-year-old works as an Officer COmmanding of the Lynch Camp with the Defence Forces, having served peacekeeping missions in Chad, Lebanon and Syria during his time with the forces
