Enniscorthy native Michelle O'Neill will become the first Irish person to officiate a senior World Cup final, after she was appointed as assistant referee in tomorrow's Women's World Cup final Netherlands and USA.
This is O'Neill's second World Cup campaign, having also acted as assistant referee in the 2015 edition in Canada, and has been officiating in the League of Ireland and Women's National League since 2010.
This will be the 40-year-old's second World Cup final, having been on the line for last year's U20 decider, which also took place in France.
O'Neill was in the top 5% of officials travelling to the tournament, and has been selected from a group of 48 assistant referees .
