Cristiano Ronaldo notched his 100th Premier League goal but it was in vein.
In a first half that saw VAR intervene, a penalty scored and another denied, it was reminiscent of a roller-coaster.
United were much the better side in the second half - with Bruno Fernandes hitting the post from a spot kick.
Ultimately, this is yet another damning result in a traumatic season for the reds.
Arsenal, on the other hand, will be licking their lips at the prospect of a return to Champions League football.
