Waterford FC 1
St Patrick's Athletic 2
Waterford FC fell to their third consecutive defeat in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division, as goals either side of half-time from Conor Clifford and Dean Clarke handed St Patrick's Athletic all three points at the Regional Sports Centre.
The Blues took the lead, as Cory Galvin curled in a fantastic effort on the half-hour mark, but two minutes later that was cancelled out by a stunning strike from Clifford, latching onto a quickly taken free-kick to smash the leveler into the top right-hand corner from 35 yards.
This was both teams' third game in a week, evident in a tired second-half where both sides struggled to retain possession, despite both managers bringing on fresh legs - including new Waterford signing Tom Holland, making his debut after signing from Welsh club TNS.
In the end, Dean Clarke found space at the back post to head Kevin Toner's cross towards goal. The initial effort was stopped by Matthew Connor, but Clarke was on hand to tuck home the rebound and see Pat's leapfrog Derry City into fourth.
The defeat sees Waterford lose further ground on Munster rivals Cork City - now three points behind with three games in hand.
