Pochettino is no stranger to the Premier League, having previously held the hot seat at Southampton and Tottenham. He has been without a club since the end of his journey with French outfit Paris Saint-Germain in 2022.
Frank Lampard led Chelsea on a caretaker basis until the end of the season following Potter's sacking and has officially left the club.
Chelsea's co-sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, have welcomed the experience that the Argentine brings.
"Mauricio's experience, standards of excellence, leadership qualities and character will serve Chelsea Football Club well as we move forward," the pair are reported in saying by Sky Sports News.
"He is a winning coach who has worked at the highest levels in multiple leagues and languages. His ethos, tactical approach and commitment to development all made him the exceptional candidate."
I thank the team, the staff and the fans for all the work this season. It wasn't the result we wanted! Thanks for your unconditional support and love 💙 see you next season 👊🏽🙏🏽

Chelsea have spent a staggering £600m in the last two transfer windows and finished 12th in the Premier League - their lowest finish in 27 years.
A trophyless season ensures that European football will not be entertaining Stamford Bridge in Pochettino's debut year, giving him ample time to focus on reclaiming the blue's domestic stature.
His previous stay in London also ended trophyless with Spurs, although he did guide them to a Champions League final against Liverpool in 2019. He would inevitably suffer defeat, but his reputation was considerably enhanced.

With fans eager for his arrival, this season has cemented doubt in many minds. Todd Boehly and his American consortium have pumped considerable funds into the London outfit, with three separate managers entertaining responsibilities in a solitary campaign.
While a sentiment of giving time is echoed with the appointment, one can only assume that early results will dictate the latest chapter of the popular manager's career.
