Bumper weekend of GAA action: Provincial deciders and Tailteann Cup preliminaries
GAA Goalposts

A huge weekend of GAA action is upon us, with multiple counties from the South East in action.

Saturday, 10 June

The Tailteann Cup begins the focus of today's play. We enter the preliminary quarter-final stages with the South East heavily represented.

The action gets underway at 4.00 pm, with the meeting of Offaly and Wexford at Glenisk O'Connor Park.

Wexford will be hoping for a better result than last year, having fallen by a single point when the sides met in the preliminary round.

Each County finished second in their groups, winning one, losing one and drawing one en route to today's fascinating encounter.

Carlow welcomes New York to Netwatch Cullen Park for a 5.00 pm start.

Carlow have won two and lost one in their group outings, while New York are making their first appearance in this year's Tailteann Cup.

Carlow fell to eventual champions Westmeath in 2022, while New York lost out to Offaly.

The later fixtures pit Fermanagh against Laois at Brewster Park from 6.00 pm, and Down take on Longford in Newry an hour later.

The Glen Dimplex All Ireland Senior Camogie Championship has two Group 2 games down for decision today.

First up from 5.00 pm, Tipperary host Dublin.

This will be a fascinating encounter following the Premier's resounding victory in the Munster final over Clare last month. Dublin will provide staunch resistance and were impressive in their narrow Leinster final defeat against Kilkenny.

An hour later, Kilkenny welcomes Wexford to UPMC Nowlan Park.

The Cats beat Tipperary to deny their neighbours a place in the league final, with the All-Ireland champions illustrating their enduring class.

Player of the year, Miriam Walsh is a loss after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury early in the season. Mary O’Connell is another omission after confirming her plans to travel this year.

Colin Sunderland is in his first season as Wexford manager and has overseen some change in the Yellowbelly ranks. They only found Waterford too strong for them in the Division 1B final of the League and possess more than enough talent to be a factor.

Sunday, 11 June

Hurling takes centre stage on Sunday, with two of the finest occasions in the domestic sporting calendar to play out in Leinster and Munster.

Kilkenny goes to battle with Galway for provincial honours in Leinster, with throw-in set for 4.00 pm in Croke Park.

The Cats are bidding for a fourth successive title, while Galway are aiming for a first since 2018. The pair played out an entertaining spectacle in the Round Robin meeting, ending in a draw with a scoreline of Kilkenny 0-28 to Galway 1-25.

This will mark the ninth Leinster Final meeting between the pair, with Kilkenny holding a 5-2 advantage and one draw. In total, it will be the 51st Championship meeting between the hurling heavyweights, with Derek Lyng's side reigning supreme by 33-13 and four drawn.

Galway manager Henry Shefflin played against Galway on thirteen occasions and won six provincial titles while playing alongside Lyng for his beloved County.

In the days earlier start, Limerick are hunting for their fifth consecutive Munster Title in a repeat of last year's decider against Clare, who seek their seventh success.

The Treaty men won by three points after extra time in 2022, but Clare were victorious in the side's Round Robin meeting, prevailing by a scoreline of 1-24 to 2-20.

Clare last tasted Provincial success in 1998 and have lost five finals since then. This is the 60th Championship meeting between the sides, with Limerick holding a 37-20 lead and two drawn.

Throw in at TUS Gaelic Ground is at 1.45 pm.
