Bonnar favourite for Tipp hurling job

Colm Bonnar has emerged as the favourite to succeed Liam Sheedy as Tipperary hurling manager.

The former Wexford and Carlow manager was an All Ireland-winner as a Tipp player in 1989 and 1991.

Bonnar last managed Carlow to Christy Ring and Joe McDonagh Cup titles, as well as promotion all the way to the top Division in the Allianz Hurling League - bringing the Scallions back to the top table for the first time in decades.

The Cashel man also guided WIT to four Fitzgibbon Cup titles in six years.

Bonnar and William Maher had been the two main candidates for the job after Liam Cahill opted to stick with Waterford.
