The high unemployment among young people is becoming a cause for concern for the National Youth Council of Ireland.
It's after the previous Government failed to deliver on it's initiative to get more young people into education and apprenticeships.
Just over half of the education spaces promised to get young people off job seekers allowance through the Youth Guarantee scheme actually materialised.
Deputy Director of the National Youth Council of Ireland and Tipperary native James Doorley told Beat News it's a worry:
" Certainly it's clear from the data that what the Government promised in 2015 which was over 28,000 places they're not going to deliver anything near that.
It's a major concern given that we still have over 20% youth unemployment, almost 40,000 young people in the country under 25 who are on the Live Register.
So we certainly need for the incoming Government to give this issue attention and prioritise Youth Unemployment."
