Waterford Institute of Technology has received funding from the European Union to conduct a new technological research project.
The aim of the research is to predict the next installment of wireless technology, beyond this generation.
The €3 million investment from the EU has been granted to tech experts to plot and plan the future of wireless technology beyond 5G to help how data centers are designed and operated.
Waterford I.T. is the only college in Ireland involved in the project.
The project, known as TERAPOD, led by Dr. Alan Davy is expected to take three years to complete.
Dr. Alan and his team will investigate and examine the feasibility of ultra-high bandwidth wireless access networks that are one thousand times faster than today's existing 3G and 4G optimum speeds.
The research will be aided by academic influencers and industry leaders from Ireland, the UK, Germany, and Spain.
