Wexford TD slams government for lack of covid test slots in the south east

A Wexford TD has slammed the Government for their handling of the pandemic.

It comes as on Wednesday there were no PCR tests appointments available in the South East.

Speaking in the Dáil, Independent Deputy Verona Murphy says we are in the same place 20 months later:

"They said they would increase ICU capacity, they didn't. They said they would implement widespread antigen testing, they didn't.

The public's confidence in government to do anything but lockdown is waning, because the most elementary of things required to contain the virus and allow the public to live with covid are in the same place 20 months later.

Cabinet will meet on Tuesday to discuss NPHET advice on restricting children's activities due to a rise in cases among young people.

Murphy says if the country does enter another lockdown in the coming weeks, Government needs to provide a long term plan;

"If we are to endure another lockdown, can we at least have a commitment from government that NPHET and the HSE will devise a long term strategy which must ensure to resource all of the aforementioned, to use whatever supports are available in the armory.
