Education should be free in this country from primary to third level.

That’s the belief of the leader of the labour Party, Brendan Howlin.

The Wexford TD was speaking as more and more people struggle to get through college without a grant.

He outlines how they would approach it:

“We will present a detailed costed analysis of how that should be achieved.

If you look at the Cassells report on the funding of 3rd level education there’s certainly a need for funding.

We will produce a comprehensive costed document about how the Cassells criteria can be met for funding education from state coffers and increasing taxes on employers, a slight increase in the employment training levy.

A thing employers have realised is a good thing.”
