Wexford Senator calls for patience as rents soar

A Wexford Senator has called for patience from those on the rental market, as prices continue to soar.

Renting in the county is now almost 12% more expensive than it was at the same time last year, while rents in Waterford have grown by over 15% in the same period.

Opposition parties have called for a rent freeze over the next three years, as the Government continues to build homes through its 'Housing for All' plan.

Fianna Fáil Senator Malcom Byrne wouldn't discuss the possibility to Beat News, but has asked people to be patient as prices continue to rise.

"There will be greater supply in the rental market, in the social and affordable housing market, in the market for people who want to buy and own their own home and that is gonna take a bit of time to work its way through.

I know that's no consolation for people at the moment for those who are there and those who are suffering, but it's something that we're aware of and we are trying to address."
