Wexford hurler disqualified from driving for three years

A Wexford hurler has been banned from driving for three years and fined €300 for drink-driving.

Conor McDonald was brought before Gorey District Court on charges of drink-driving and failing/refusing to provide a preliminary breath test following a motoring incident outside Gorey, Co. Wexford in 2020.

On providing evidence to the court, Garda Aaron O'Neill noted that he spotted the 26-year-old's vehicle in the middle of the road when responding to a road traffic accident report in the early hours of May 3, 2020.

When Garda O'Neill had arrived at the scene, he noticed the vehicle in question had collided with a ditch, damaging the front bumper.

It was stated by Garda O'Neill that Mr. McDonald's speech was slurred at the time of his arrival.

As the wing forward was unable to provide a valid breathalyzer sample at the scene of the incident, he was taken to Gorey Garda Station where a laboratory urine test provided a reading of 252µg/100ml.

A €300 fine was handed down along with a three-year driving ban.
