Ireland’s biggest water fight on a beach takes place on Duncannon Beach in Co Wexford this weekend.
The event is part of the 30th annual Duncannon Sand Sculpting Festival which will take place on Duncannon Beach in County Wexford from Friday until Sunday. Other fun events on the beautiful Duncannon beach include fireworks, a family beach party, beach games, live music and awesome professional sand sculptures.
The water fight will take place at 2pm on Saturday on the beach. Participants can pay €2 for a bunch of approximately 40 water balloons. Festival organiser, Cathy Dowling, said they had bought lots of water balloons for the water fight tomorrow.
Professional sand-sculptors will be onsite creating giant sand-sculpted masterpieces and the festival will kick off on Friday with the grand unveiling of the Sand Sculptures in the now familiar tent on the beach, a giant family beach party, plenty of children’s entertainment and a huge fireworks display after dark lighting up the Hook Peninsula.
Festivities will recommence on Saturday with the Sand Sculpture Tent open all day from 10am, there will be plenty of fun games for all the family to join in on the beach, this will include a screening of Finding Nemo at 7pm. The family fun continues on Sunday with the Annual Amateur Sand Sculpting Competition - this competition is open to all ages and ability and best Sand Sculpture wins.
Commenting on the upcoming festival one of the festivals organiser’s Cathy Dowling said, “We are delighted to be hosting the 30th annual festival, over the years the festival has held some very innovative and fun events including the first all-Ireland sandsculpting competition and also a record attempt to create the most number of Sand Angels for which we created 405 sand angels at the festival last year. This festival is always fun filled, our emphasis is firmly on family fun and we ensure a programme filled with wonderful activities for the locals and visitors to the village to enjoy with all of the events on offer either free of charge or at a nominal fee.”
