A conference on the 'challenges and opportunities of Brexit for County Wexford' will take place this month.
Malcolm Byrne, councillor for Gorey, will host the event as a means to highlight the impact of the UK's decision to leave the EU, and how that might affect both the county and the country as a whole.
Mr. Byrne spoke to Beat News about the event, explaining why he thought it was important to create such a dialogue.
"The conference is looking at possibly the biggest political issue that will affect all of us living in Ireland and particularly those of us in the South East over the next decade."
"Brexit will impact on everything from our ports and airports, to agriculture and trade, travel and education opportunities. I foresee as important that we all look at how this is going to impact us as we work together."
Although Mr. Byrne expressed his disappointment at the decision taken by the UK, he said that certain opportunities may arise for Ireland as a result.
"In competing for European contracts, Irish companies have sometimes found that they're up against UK companies - who have been able to put across a larger, better deal."
"If the UK proceeds with Brexit, they will no longer be able to compete for contracts across the European Union and I think it's important that Irish companies are in a position to be able to fill that gap."
"I also think that we need to look at how we may be able to better use our ports. For those people traveling in trucks, for example, rather than going to Dover and then on through to England and Wales, it may be more advantageous to develop our ports here, including Rosslare."
The event will take place at the Clayton Whites Hotel on Thursday, March 30 at 8 p.m.
