A number of beaches have been found to have poor quality water for swimming.
The latest report from the Environmental Protection Agency shows those failing to meet minimum EU standards include Duncannon in Wexford, Youghal in Cork, Ballyloughane in Galway, Loughshinny, Rush South and Merrion Strand - all in Dublin.
93 per cent of Irish beaches were found to be up to standard.
Peter Webster from the EPA says despite having poor water quality, the beaches are not out of bounds:
"Many of the problems that we are seeing with these poor waters, Youghal in particular, is down to the quality of water in that year and that year alone.
Even though the water quality is classified as poor it doesn't mean the beach is off limits, it doesn't mean the water is off limits."
