A Wetherspoon is coming to Waterford this year!

After lengthy delays, the UK pub giant has confirmed that a premise is in the works for this April.

According to Waterford News & Star, JD Wetherspoon confirmed to the publication that ‘An Geata Arundel’ will officially open its doors on the 26th of April.

It will make Waterford the fourth county in Ireland to house the Uk bar, with one already located in the South East, on Tullow Street, Co. Carlow called 'The Tullow Gate'.

According to Wetherspoon's website, the name for the Déise venue originates from the centuries-old clay bank at the rear of the commercial bank housed in 7–9 Arundel Square, constructed in 1998–99.

Arundel Square takes its name from the nearby gate of the same name in Waterford’s ancient city wall.

The publication reports that €3.8 million will be invested into the development of the new spot, which is being built on the site of the former Permanent TSB bank.

The new bar will feature two floors and two enclosed courtyard gardens.

It's also positive news for the hospitality industry as it will create 70 new jobs for the Waterford area.
