West Waterford students inspired by women role models

A Waterford school is one of only 4 in the country to attend a special meeting on Irish women role models in Dublin yesterday.

The TY talks forum was hosted by Minister Heather Humphreys and was set up as part of the 1916 centenary events to celebrate Irish women who've made an impact on the students.

The whole of the school's Transition Year was involved and 6 students were chosen to attend the event.

Maria O'Brien is a teacher at Blackwater Community College and tells Beat News that "they'll get an awful lot out of it- that these women are inspirational, some of them are in our history books but some have been written out of history".

"Today, we hear about them and about the 300 women who fought in 1916. It's very importanht that they're recognised by the State and that's what's happening here."
