In what has become something of a Waterford Christmas tradition in recent years, BuskAid is delighted to announce that the annual fundraiser for Tinteán Housing Association will be held once again, for its sixth year, on Wednesday, December 22 with a slightly altered approach.
This year’s event will not feature the fundraiser's big busk which has traditionally concluded BuskAid’s fundraising efforts since our first event in 2016.
This decision was taken with public health considerations in mind. Busking will continue throughout the city on the 22nd however and as always, the fundraisers are encouraging anyone interested in busking or volunteering in any way to do so here.
While Cash donations will be accepted on the day, BuskAid is encouraging people who wish to donate to do so online via their iDonate page.
Having held the entirety of BuskAid 2020 online, raising over €7,000 for Tinteán, organisers learned how to hold a successful online fundraising campaign. This year they will take a hybrid approach holding both an online and physical campaign, the online element is crucial to efforts once again this year.
The highly successful #BuskFromYourBedroom and #5KForBuskAid challenges will return while video content from Waterford’s best musical acts will appear on BuskAid’s social media
throughout the month.
BuskAid founder Tadhg Williams noted: “Having a strong social media presence will only be successful if we continue to get the same support we have always done from the people of Waterford. It amazes me every year how much people get behind BuskAid. We couldn’t have done it last year without the help of all the musicians, artists, videographers and tech wizards that helped us with, what I thought, was an incredibly impressive online campaign.”
BuskAid co-founder Anna Jordan added: “We hoped that this year we could return to normal but with the current public health situation that’s not possible quite yet. Although it’s brilliant to be getting back out onto the streets again in some way, we’re getting some of that magic back. But we need people to keep supporting us online as well as on the streets on the 22 nd if we’re going to raise as much money as possible for Tinteán.”
BuskAid are continuing to explore other fundraising avenues throughout December and are encouraging anyone who wants to help out to get in contact. Derek Flynn, BuskAid co-founded added:
“We’re hoping people will run their own fundraisers for BuskAid this year. That schools might run a Christmas jumper day, or community groups might organise a little bit of carolling. We need to maximise our fundraising avenues as much as possible if BuskAid is going to continue being as successful as it has been over the past five years!”
