Waterford Walls officially announced its return for a third year with a unique launch event in the Presbytery building on George’s Street last Thursday.
The theme of the event was ‘Re-imagining Waterford and Public Spaces’ and attendees had the opportunity to hear from well-known architect Dermot Bannon who has been announced as this year’s Waterford Walls Ambassador along with project manager Edel Tobin.
In the spirit of ‘Re-imagining Spaces’, the ‘brown bag’ lunchtime launch was held in the Presbytery building which has been lying vacant for many years.
Dermot Bannon commended the team on the project and spoke about the importance of individuals starting small to make a difference in terms of making a change. In addition to Dermot’s input and guidance for making positive changes to city spaces, other ideas from the audience discussion around ‘
Speaking about the initiative, Edel Tobin, project manager told the audience: “Waterford Walls is an idea based on trying to engage the public with our city in a really creative way and we are delighted with the positive impact the project has had to date.
"Not only is Waterford recognised as a key city for street art within Ireland, it has achieved international recognition as a destination for street art enthusiasts, strengthening its pull for tourists.
"We are focusing on three key areas for the 2017 project including O’Connell Street, New Street Gardens and parts of the Waterford Greenway", she said.
