Irish cities score higher than most of their European counterparts in a new EU "Cultural and Creative Cities Monitor."
168 European cities were rated in the new monitor, which aims to benchmark the performance of cities with their peers.
Waterford came in fifth place for "cultural vibrancy" in the Small Cities category (50,000 - 100,000). Galway came top overall while Limerick was in fourth place.
Cultural Vibrancy measures the cultural "pulse" of a city in terms of cultural infrastructure and participation in culture.
Waterford was also rated highly for "openness, tolerance and trust."
