South Tipp hospital could be moving from the South/South-West hospital group to the University of Limerick Hospital Group.
That's according to the proposal put forward by the HSE and the Minister for Health.
The move would aid the issue South Tipp hospital currently faces with overcrowding.
Sinn Fein's Deputy David Cullinane says this could be seen as a threat for University Hospital Waterford
"If it is the case that Tipperary General hospital comes out of the group which is in the same group as University Hospital Waterford, that will spell disaster because it would be grouped with a hospital in Limerick and the vast majority of patients who live in the South Tipp area are transferred to UHW.
"I would be very concerned if we have a situation that services that are currently in place in UHW, servicing the South East was no longer servicing that population".
