Waterford is now home to the world's first Viking virtual reality adventure facility

Ireland's first Viking virtual reality adventure opened in Waterford yesterday.

King of the Vikings - the world’s first Viking virtual reality adventure is a dynamic virtual reality experience, which brings visitors up close and personal with the Vikings who founded Waterford, Ireland's oldest city.

The grand opening took place yesterday, which demonstrated a live re-enactment of life in Waterford during Viking times

The project received over €145,000 from Failte Ireland in funding to get up and running.

Waterford City and County Councillor, Adam Wyse, explains what the project is all about: "It's a virtual reality experience here in Waterford City to show locals, and tourists that come to County Waterford, what it was like to live in a Viking house back in 907AD when Waterford was first overtaken by the Vikings.

"It's an unbelievable project that you can't experience anywhere else in Ireland", he concluded.

Ambassador of Norway to Ireland, Else Berit Eikeland was also in attendance at the launch.

King of the Vikings is open seven days a week.
