Waterford ISPCA urges dog owners to get their pets microchipped

It's essential to get your dog microchipped, according to the ISPCA.

That comes as a puppy pug was reunited with it's family after being stolen in Wexford town.

The dog was discovered by Gardaí several days later in an abandoned house over 180km away.

Alice Lacey is an Animal Welfare Inspector with the ISPCA covering Co. Waterford and South Tipp.

She explains the importance of microchipping your dog:

"There are several reasons for doing it. The main one being obviously pets being lost or stolen.

"A lot of those pets are never reunited with their owners but there is a chance that they could be if they are chipped in the first place.

"The microchipping of dogs came into law on the 31st of March last year."
