Waterford deputy says mobile cath lab delivery is imminent

Waterford TD John Halligan says the mobile cath lab will be delivered to UHW sooner rather than later.

That unit is to help reduce the backlog of patients in cardiac units at University Hospital Waterford.

Beat News asked the Minister for Training, Skills and Innovation for a progress update at an event in Waterford recently:

"What happens is the mobile cath lab has been agreed to - it goes out to procurement. It has to go that way.

The Minister cannot just pluck a cath lab and drive it down to Waterford himself.

That has been agreed by the Government, agreed by the Taoiseach and agreed by the Minister.

The mobile cath lab will be delivered.

I can't give you a time frame but it'll be sooner rather than later - there's no question about that."

The committee will hear from the author Dr. Niall Herity - Clinical Director of Cardiology, Belfast HSC Trust and Clinicians from the South East.

Session B considering the Herity report will commence at 2:00pm in the Houses of the Oireachtas.
