Members of the fire service are concentrating their efforts on an area between The Hub pub and the Apple Market Car Park.
**Update**
Beat now understands that petrol fumes are being blamed for what was earlier thought to be a gas leak in Waterford City.
It is thought that petrol had gotten into storm drains, forcing fumes to rise.
Bord Gáis has since visited the area and are understood to be satisfied that no gas is being leaked.
The area remains cornered off while drains are being flushed.
