Locals, Gardaí and Waterford Animal Welfare worked together in the late hours of last night to rescue a horse that had been tied up in a field with no protection from Storm Emma.
The animal welfare group responded to a call from a concerned local who had spotted a discussion about the distressed mare on social media.
The folks at Waterford Animal Welfare rushed to Clover Meadows in Ferrybank, Waterford, where the mare was said to be located.
However, due to worsening weather conditions, the rescuers were forced to abandon their horsebox in Tramore, Waterford.
A call out for help was posted on social media, which was kindly answered.
Thankfully, shelter by the way of a nearby stable was also offered, meaning that the freezing mare had somewhere warm to lay her head down for the night.
Taking to social media after the rescue, Waterford Animal Welfare thanked everyone involved in the operation, before warning that the untrained should never approach distressed animals.
"Always make the call", they concluded.
As of late yesterday evening, Waterford Animal Welfare responded to 95% of calls received. Absolute heroes.
