Three well-known GAA hurling stars from opposing teams have joined forces for a creative video in support of Three Sisters 2020. Waterford centre-back and All-Star winner Kevin Moran; Wexford full-forward Liam Óg McGovern; and Kilkenny corner-forward Walter Walsh all star.
The three have thrown their support behind the unique partnership of Kilkenny, Waterford and Wexford who have joined together as the Three Sisters, to bid for the European Capital of Culture 2020.
In the first part of the video, Kevin Moran and Liam Óg McGovern swap jerseys for tuxes to perform on stage at the National Opera House in Wexford.
Walter Walsh is then shown watching the sporting pair, inspiring him to get behind an easel for his own artistic endeavours at Grennan Mill Craft School, Thomastown, Co Kilkenny.
Viewers are in for a surprise as the identity of the three GAA stars is not initially revealed.
The video was produced by John Bermingham of Waterford-based All That Can Be Productions. It was directed by, and also stars, Wexford native Mick D'Arcy, lead singer with well-known folk band Corner Boy.
Three Sisters 2020 Bid Director Michael Quinn said: “This video plays humorously on our traditional GAA rivalries and the united support for the Three Sisters 2020 bid throughout the region.
“It also perfectly demonstrates that we are home to world class opera, a remarkable arts community, a strong sporting pedigree and a wealth of cultural groups across the Three Sisters 2020 region... and captures our unique sense of humour.
“We are confident that people will enjoy watching this video as much as we enjoyed making it. If they like this video and they support our Bid, we urge them to support us by following Three Sisters on social media.”
The European Capital of Culture 2020 panel will make their final decision on Friday, July 15th. Galway and Limerick are also competing for the title. The European Capitals of Culture initiative is a major European Union action aimed at promoting cultural diversity.
