Met Éireann says there are hazardous conditions nationally, with a status yellow ice warning now in place.
It will run until midday, with black ice possible, as well as freezing rain.
The Road Safety Authority is advising motorists to slow down.
The current weather warning remains in place until midday.
Siobhan Ryan, Meteorologist with Met Éireann says conditions are poor out there this morning.
"It's cold, it's icy and we've got a band of precipitation currently sinking down from the North of Ireland.
"There is a real mix of rain, sleet and some snowfall embedded in that and also the potential for some black ice on the leading edge of that.
"So, really treacherous, cold, icy conditions out there, particularly during the morning hours."

Charlie Weston of the Irish Independent says cold snaps are bad for your pocket given energy prices.
"With those October increases, you're probably talking about electricity and gas bills doubling in the last year.
"Home heating oil, it' sup about 50% in the last year alone, even though it's come back a bit now in the last while but you try and get some logs for a stove or a fire, they have gotten very dear as well."
