Parents on high alert as van driver attempts to 'abduct' schoolboy

Parents and children are being urged to exercise caution after the alleged attempted abduction of a schoolboy in Dublin.

Gardaí are investigating a reported incident in which a man attempted to lure a young boy into his van at around 3 pm on Monday, December 12th on Bath Avenue - close to the Aviva Stadium in south Dublin.

The boy was running ahead of family members while making his way home from school when the approach was made.

Once confronted by the man in the van the boy ran home, which was closeby. He was not harmed during the incident.

The alleged event is said to have caused considerable distress and panic among parents in the south Dublin area.

A Gardaí spokesperson said that Gardaí in Donnybrook are "investigating an alleged incident of an approach to a child that occurred on Bath Avenue, Dublin 4, on Monday, December 12th, at approximately 3 pm.”

It is understood that Gardaí are currently working to gather CCTV footage from Bath Street. Investigations are ongoing.
