Urban areas across the country could see speed limits cut to 30km an hour.

The move is being considered as part of a new road safety strategy that aims to reduce road deaths by half over the next decade.

30km limits have already been introduced in a number of areas in Dublin.

MEP Ciarán Cuffe says in order to reduce the carnage on our roads we need measures like lower speed limits.

However, Independent TD for Kerry, Michael Healy-Rae, believe's it's another money making racket by the government.
