The advice from the Road Safety Authority is to carry a screen scraper and de-icer to defrost their windscreens.
They also warn that motorists should never use hot water to defrost the windscreen as it can crack the glass.
The RSA also warns drivers to ensure the windscreen washer system is working and full of an anti-icing fluid.
