Trial continues in London after Tipp man killed his flatmate

The trial is continuing in the case of a Tipperary man who knifed his flatmate to death in London.


Michael Purcell has admitted the killing but denies murder on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

53 year old Michael Purcell known as Mick to his flatmates stabbed Imelda Molina to death in the flat they shared in Cricklewood in North London.

Ms Molina's body was discovered on October 28th last year, she had suffered multiple stab wounds to her torso, groin and between her legs.

Mr Purcell was found with a 10 centimetre gash to his neck where he'd tried to slit his own throat.

It's understood he'd been drinking heavily and had no memory of the ten days in the lead up to the attack.

He had financial difficulties and faced an 8 grand tax bill.

After he was arrested he admitted he'd been having suicidal thoughts and been drinking heavily.

He held his hands up and admitted to killing Ms Molina but denied murdering her and said he had no reason to kill her.
