Today marks the 30th anniversary of Daffodil Day, which seeks to raise funds for cancer research and treatment.
People from all over the South East are being asked to support the cause by buying and wearing a Daffodil
A number of events will be taking place across the region including coffee mornings and volunteers on streets selling the yellow flowers
Des Daunton, Chairman of the Waterford Daffodil Day Society explains where the money raised goes to
"Yes, absolutely. The awareness is, that's the detection, to look for ever detection.
The money than that we would raise for example last year, €68,000.
What's raised in Waterford is spent in Waterford.
It's spent through, like we mentioned down in UHW through the I.S.C center where it's the night nurse facility for the cancer patients and there's also a driver facility so if somebody is in a remote area and there's no public transport, they can get a free driver system."
Des also explained how Daffodil day came about
"Well Daffodil day, believe it or not, is 30 years since it started.
It was an idea, in the whole area of cancer to try and get it in the public view and no better way of doing it, especially at this time of year with Daffodils everywhere in the gardens, the motorway, everywhere! So it was to get awareness in the whole area of Cancer."
