Tipperary primary schools to protest at Dept. of Education

Teachers and Students from 5 primary schools in Tipp Town are to protest at the Department of Education in Dublin this afternoon.

Over 140 pupils along with their Principals and parents, want to highlight their exclusion from the DEIS scheme.

Louise Tobin, Principal of St. Joseph's Primary School in the town explains how important it is to them.

"So we're resourced at the moment in the same way as all the other schools in the country, be they in the area of affluent or wealth or whatever, and when we have students coming to our school.

Maybe non-nationals who would have a language barrier, maybe those who haven't had their breakfast, low-income families, we have to bridge that gap from the general cost.

We're entitled to extra resources to bridge those gaps, to give the children maybe the school lunch scheme, to give them extra resourcing, books to help them learn, possible addition of staffing, additional funding, home school liaison. They are all things we need in our school
