Tipp 'boy racers' fined €7,000 for 'doughnuts'

Two men from Tipperary have been ordered to pay fines of €3,500 each after being caught doing 'doughnuts' in their cars in Kerry.

Drone footage of the stunt shows the pair had completed 11 'doughnuts' in the space of a minute on April 29th at Looscaunagh, Killarney.

The footage uploaded to YouTube had been viewed over 220,000 times on Facebook.

The social media surrounding the video attracted Garda attention, leading the Gardaí to contact the young men over three months after the incident took place.

Iarfhlait O'Brien (21) and Martin Hayden (25) both from the Thurles area of County Tipperary, have both been charged with dangerous driving.

Both men entered guilty pleas at Killarney District Court.

Once the men pay their fines of €3,500 each to the court poor box, their charges will be reduced to careless driving, but they will still receive penalty points respectively and receive convictions.

Furthermore, the men have both been ordered to have speedometers fitted to any cars they may drive for a three year period, with a maximum speed allowance of 100kmh.

The matter has been adjourned until November 21st.
