An estimated 60,000 people took part in the Women's March on New York City, one of hundreds being held around the world aimed at showing newly inaugurated US President Donald Trump that they will not be silenced during the 4 years of his presidency.
The march ended at Trump Tower in the city, where he conducted much of his business before election. His wife Melania and son Barron will remain in residency there.
Celebrities including Whoopie Goldberg, Taylor Schilling, Dame Helen Mirren and Cynthia Nixon were also in attendance. The Sex & The City star spoke at the rally saying "We are not rolling back the tarp on the progress that we have made. To every woman here who won't give up, women make the change."
The march in support of women's equality and human rights began at 11am and much of Fifth Avenue was closed to allow the demonstration to take place.
Similar marches have been taking place around the world in solidarity with the Women's March On Washington.
