From today, those aged 17 and over will be able to access free at-home STI tests.
People will be able to apply for the tests at sexualwellbeing.ie, with them being sent out via post free of charge.
Dr Fiona Lyons, HSE Clinical Lead for Sexual Health says it will allow for people to be more confident in accessing sexual health services:
" It isnt for everybody and its mostly targetting indivisuals who are asymptomatic and that does a nuimber of things- it allows people to bve greater control over their sexual health. It overcomes the long standing barriers or stigma of having to give a sexual history or discuss their sexual health"
